🎢 WanderLyn: Get your 10K Steps in .... Disney’s California Adventure

There’s something extra sparkly about a day at Disney’s California Adventure — where superheroes, Pixar pals, and California sunshine all meet in one perfectly planned (and occasionally spontaneous) day of fun. From racing through Radiator Springs to catching Spider-Man mid-flip, sipping margaritas in San Fransokyo, and ending the night with lobster nachos and World of Color fireworks… this park truly has it all.

So lace up those comfy shoes and grab your sense of wonder — it’s going to be a magical day. ✨

🏨 Where to stay?

If you ever get the chance to stay at the Disneyland Hotel or the Grand Californian, do it! ✨ These are not just hotels — they’re part of the magic. The Grand Californian even has its own entrance straight into California Adventure (talk about a head start!). But don’t worry if you’re staying nearby — Anaheim is full of comfy, walkable options, and the Toy Story Parking Lot offers free shuttles right into the parks.

Wherever you rest your Mickey ears, one thing’s certain: you’ll want to start your day early, because there’s a lot to do.

✨ Prepping for Magic: What to Know Before You Go

Before you dive headfirst into the Disney daydream, here’s how to set yourself up for a stress-free day:

✅ Download the Disneyland App – This is your ultimate park buddy. You’ll use it for maps, mobile food orders, ride wait times, show schedules, Lightning Lane bookings, and even character meet-and-greet spots.

✅ Buy Tickets in Advance – Don’t waste time in line (and yes, reservations do sell out).

✅ Reserve Your Park Dates – Especially key during holidays, festivals, or the summer rush.

✅ Purchase the Lightning Lane Multi-Pass – Totally worth it. This little gem lets you skip the standby lines for popular rides. You can book your first one at 7 a.m. the day of your visit, and then another every two hours or after your first ride is used. These do sell out, so grab one early!

✅ Dining Reservations (Book 60 Days Out) – Want to snag a seat at the Lamplight Lounge? Go for the last seating — you’ll have front-row views of the World of Color show while sipping your cocktail. 🍹 Or, treat yourself to the World of Color Dessert Party. It’s a splurge, but so worth it for the VIP seating and sweet treats.

💡 Pro Tip: You can also join the virtual queue for World of Color through the app if you didn't snag a Lamplighter reservation or you're not doing the Dessert Party.

🚗 Start Your Engines in Cars Land

Once you’re through the gate, head straight to Cars Land. Your goal: Radiator Springs Racers. 🏁

This one doesn’t have Lightning Lane access, and it’s always one of the longest lines in the park — but it’s 100% worth it. You’ll race through canyons, meet the Cars crew, and feel like you’re in the movie itself.

While you’re there, take a spin on Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters or Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree — both are adorable and full of Pixar charm.

Need breakfast? Pop into Flo’s V8 Café — the retro diner of your Route 66 dreams. They serve hearty breakfast platters, biscuits, and coffee that hits the spot. There’s also a nearby Gourmet Coffee cart if you prefer something stronger (yes, there are “grown-up coffees,” and yes, you can mobile order!).

🕸 Into the Action: Avengers Campus

Next stop, Avengers Campus.

If the line’s short, jump on WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure. You’ll help Spidey catch rogue Spider-Bots by literally slinging webs with your hands — it’s a workout, but such fun. Nope, I did not get the high score, but I got a lot of those spider bots! Hah!

Afterward, line up by the Stark building for the Amazing Spider-Man Live Show (check the app for times). Watching Spidey swing and flip across the rooftop never gets old.

Then it’s time for Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! 🎶 Rocket’s got you on a wild rescue mission — expect drops, laughter, and classic rock. The ride is much smoother since the refurb, and I just love the cut scenes of the crazy escape.

💀 Halloween Tip: After 2 p.m., the ride transforms into Monsters After Dark, a darker, spookier sequel to the daytime version. Rocket forgot Groot in the chaos!! So, he must return to rescue him, and you are there to help. Totally different music, mayhem, and excitement. If you can, do both!

Now’s a great time to book your next Lightning Lane — Toy Story Midway Mania is a smart pick since that line fills up fast. After that, choose rides based on your favorites and what’s nearby.

✨ Lightning Lane Tip: Once you’ve used a Lightning Lane pass, you can immediately make another selection. And if your next reservation is more than two hours away, you can still book a new one after that two-hour window passes — whichever comes first!

 🌉 Lunch in San Fransokyo

When you get hungry, head to San Fransokyo Square, inspired by Big Hero 6,  for some lunch (and maybe a cocktail).

🍞 Grab a sourdough bowl at Boudin Bakery Café — the bread is baked right there on-site.

🍫 Treat yourself at Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop — the sundaes are legendary.

🌮 Or do what I did and hit Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill for tacos and margaritas. Delicious and easy with mobile order! PS - if you love the Mickey Backpack - I got it on Amazon .

🎯 Midway Mania and Beyond

After lunch, it’s time for some friendly competition on Toy Story Midway Mania! You’ll don 3D glasses and play carnival games hosted by Woody and Buzz — it’s impossible not to smile. (I didn’t win yet again, but I had a blast trying!)

Then, for thrill-seekers, it’s time to ride the Incredicoaster. It’s more than just a roller coaster — it’s a full-blown chase after Jack-Jack, with incredible views, a loop, and that perfect Pixar storytelling.

And when you exit? Don’t miss Jack-Jack’s Cookie Num Nums — warm, gooey cookies that taste like heaven.

🎶 Classic Fun

I always make time for the Silly Symphony Swings — they’re light, breezy, and usually a quick wait. And of course there is the gorgeous Mickey Ferris Wheel with sliding cars for the more adventurous.

The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure is another must-do; it’s whimsical, air-conditioned, and pure nostalgia.  Sadly, Grizzly River Run was closed for maintenance this trip, but it’s a fantastic water raft ride on a hot day — prepare to get very wet!

And of course, Soarin’ Around the World — a breathtaking flight over the Taj Mahal, the Swiss Alps, and more, all while your feet dangle above the clouds. It’s relaxing and majestic all at once.

🍿 Snacks, Smiles, and Pixar Magic

Don’t skip Award Wieners for fun seasonal snacks, or the ever-present churro carts for your cinnamon-sugar fix.

Keep an eye out for spontaneous character meet-and-greets — it’s half the fun!

Before dinner, I stopped by Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! — a cute dark ride through Monstropolis that’s perfect for nostalgia lovers like me.

🌅 Dinner and a Show: Lamplight Lounge

For the grand finale, I had a late-night reservation at Lamplight Lounge, and let me tell you — it was magic.

The vibe is chic yet relaxed, with Pixar sketches and memorabilia everywhere. I got a great seat at the bar where I ordered the Lobster Nachos (famous for a reason!) and a craft cocktail. I had a lovely time chatting with the bartenders, there's no rush, they know you want to stay for the show. When the lights dropped, I just turned my barstool around to watch World of Color light up the lagoon.

The music, the water, the lights… it was the perfect ending to a perfect Disney day. 🌈✨

💫 The Magic Recap

Whether you’re chasing thrills, snacks, or nostalgia, Disney’s California Adventure has it all — from Spider-Man stunts to soaring over the world and savoring lobster nachos under the stars.

So pack your ears, charge your phone, and bring your sense of wonder — because at Disney, every corner holds a little more magic than you remembered.

Until next time,

Eat well. Move well. Wander well.
