WanderLyn: Get Your 10K Steps In… Orlando Part 5 EPCOT — Eating & Drinking Around the World

Hello there, my wander friends 👋✨

You know those travel days where everything just clicks? The weather behaves, the rides cooperate, the snacks hit, and somehow you end the night with sore feet and a very happy heart? This was THAT day.

EPCOT gave us the full dream package — big thrills in the morning, slow scenic strolls in the afternoon, twinkling lights by evening, and a passport full of flavors from around the world. The mission was simple (and delicious): walk a lot, ride smart, and taste everything. And let me tell you… we understood the assignment. ✔️

Note: If riding all the major attractions at EPCOT is a top priority, booking Lightning Lane selections can make a big difference. Unfortunately, none were available for purchase on our visit — Disney hotel guests get early access, and they were gone by the time our booking window opened. But honestly, it all worked out just fine. With a little flexibility, smart timing, and a good walking plan, we still managed to fit in everything we really wanted to do.

Armed with our 1-Park-Per-Day ticket, comfy shoes, and a healthy appetite, we committed to a full EPCOT day from rope drop to fireworks — no rushing off to another park, just soaking in every bite, sip, and sparkle this place has to offer.

Let’s go wander the world 🌍💫

🚀 Morning Strategy: Ride First, Snack In Line

Arrival: 8:30 AM
Park Opening: 9:00 AM

Getting in early really does help with parking and lines. People were already in the park when we arrived. We got as close to the rope as possible, and away we went right at 9am towards our first ride.

🌌 Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind

We made a beeline straight for Guardians [along with a thousand or so friends and joined the people staying in the Disney resorts who were already in line. That is a thing. But we had a plan. Once the line settled, I popped over to a nearby cart and grabbed fresh doughnuts and coffee — warm, sweet, and exactly what we needed, and it certainly made chilling in line much nicer.

As you enter the building, you travel through multiple immersive areas:

• A sleek Xandarian Galaxarium where you learn about XANDAR and its connection to Earth
• Xandar Gallery which has exhibits on Xandar culture and technology plus you'll see the Guardians being interviewed -- fun and interesting
• 2 pre-shows:  A teleportation moment that makes you feel like you've left EPCOT entirely then you hook up with the Guardians themselves which sets up the mission (and the chaos)

Then comes the coaster — and it is next-level smooth. It's Disney's first reverse launch coaster, featuring 360-degree rotating vehicles ("Starjumpers") going around 60 mph! The vehicles rotate so you’re always facing the action, which means you’re not just riding a coaster… you’re in the story.

While you're saving the galaxy, epic music is playing of course -- you get one of 6 songs. "September" (Earth, Wind & Fire), "Disco Inferno" (The Trammps), "Conga" (Gloria Estefan), "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" (Tears for Fears), "I Ran" (A Flock of Seagulls), and "One Way or Another" (Blondie).

Here's the story coaster scoop: During our peaceful visit to EPCOT’s Xandarian pavilion, the massive Celestial Eson the Searcher stole the Cosmic Generator to rewind time and erase humanity. To stop him, we joined the Guardians of the Galaxy on an emergency launch that chased the villain back to the Big Bang. We rocked out to Disco Inferno as we followed the high-speed battle through space and time. Of course, we successfully recovered the Generator and became honorary Guardians.

In sum: This is easily one of the best rides in all of Disney.

Wait time: About 90 minutes
Worth it? Every. Single. Second.

After saving the galaxy, we decided to chill out.

🌍 Spaceship Earth

You know the giant silver golf ball that is EPCOT? That’s Spaceship Earth — a slow-moving journey that takes you through the history of human communication.

The ride is nostalgic — you’ll drift past early writing systems, the invention of the printing press, Renaissance thinkers, and even a retro computer lab that feels like stepping into the 1980s. There’s something charming about how hopeful and curious the whole experience feels.

It’s dark, cool, and calm inside — the perfect reset after the high-energy thrills of Guardians. By the time you reach the top and start your gentle descent back to Earth, you feel relaxed, recharged, and ready to keep exploring.

🌱 Living with the Land

This one is just cool and informative about the park. You board a small boat and float through EPCOT’s greenhouses where Disney is actually growing fruits, vegetables, and innovative crops used in restaurants around the park.

During our visit, the entire ride had a soft layer of Christmas lights woven through the greenery — and it was delightful. Twinkling reflections danced across the water while we drifted past hanging tomatoes, Mickey-shaped ornaments, vertical gardens, and even fish farming tanks.

It’s quiet, informative, and lovely.

Late Morning Refreshment: Geo-82 Lounge

Geo-82 [82 for the park's opening year of 1982], is a sleek, futuristic lounge inside Spaceship Earth, Walking in feels like stepping into the future as imagined in the past — soft metallic gold and silver tones with Mickey globe lights above -- it is a perfect blend of the future as imagined by Walt Disney.  This is a perfect place to ease into the day with:

🍸 Creative cocktails - they have a signature Bourbon all their own
🧃 Beautiful mocktails - the Manhattan in the Morning (made with cold brew) lovely
🍕Signature Bites: We tried the Funghi Flatbread, YUMMY!

It felt like a hidden little luxury break, so glad I reserved it on the WaltDisneyWorld App in advance.

Space 220 Lounge: A Celestial Waiting Game Worth It

When I couldn’t snag a lunch reservation at Space 220 Lounge, I’ll admit — my heart sank a little. But hey, that’s part of travel, right? So I grabbed a spot in the standby queue and took in the EPCOT vibes while my friends dashed off to Test Track.

🎢 Meanwhile… Test Track

If you haven’t experienced Test Track, imagine this: you’re an automotive engineer tasked with designing a high-performance concept vehicle. After choosing your specs, you board in a sleek ride vehicle with a group, then zoom through handling tests, rough terrain, and high-speed loops before a final sprint outside where you hit speeds close to 65 mph. It’s loud, exhilarating, and a little wild — the kind of thrill that had my friends grinning from ear to ear.

I was perfectly happy to wait those 45 minutes — that loop around the track and intense pace probably would’ve been too much for me anyway! 😅

🚀 Finally: The Elevator Up

Once we got our ticket, we were ushered into a super fun Disney moment: the Space 220 elevator.

The cast member taps their device, the doors slide shut, and suddenly — you’re moving upward. Not just physically… but in feel. Soft hums and atmospheric tones kick in as your vision transitions from EPCOT Earth underfoot to the vast expanse of sky… and beyond.

The screen in the elevator shows Earth falling away — clouds drifting, tiny Florida parks below, and the horizon growing wider. If you look up, you'll see the space station coming into view. It’s not just a lift, it’s a mini journey.

🌌 Space 220 Lounge & Restaurant: Dining Among the Stars

Space 220’s lounge feels like stepping onto a stylish space station, with massive windows overlooking Earth from orbit, soft starlike lighting, and a gentle futuristic soundtrack that makes you feel worlds away from the park crowds.  Astronauts and spaceships randomly come into to view - very cool. The vibe is relaxed and social, perfect for sipping creative cocktails or beautifully crafted mocktails while sharing a few elevated small bites.

The main restaurant offers a price fixe menu, which is great if you want a full dining experience — but we chose the lounge so we could order lighter, knowing we had a full afternoon of eating and drinking our way around World Showcase ahead. There’s something quietly thrilling about sitting there, surrounded by this imagined orbit. It’s not just dining — it’s being transported.

🌟 Would I Wait Again?

Absolutely. Space 220 is one of those experiences that is simply unique. I am so glad that we got to experience it. You get to ride the space elevator back down - so fun! Fully fueled, we headed out into the world.

🌎 World Showcase: Eat, Sip & Stroll the World

We started in Mexico and walked clockwise around the lagoon — the ultimate EPCOT foodie loop. Did we eat and drink all the things, no, we just couldn't - there is so much. So below are some highly rated suggestions to try along with some fun details we enjoyed along the way.

🇲🇽 Mexico Pavilion

Inside the pyramid feels like nighttime — so cool and atmospheric. There are all kinds of goods to shop for, and you you really get a taste of a Mexican marketplace.

Recommendations:

🍹 Blood Orange Margarita
🌮 Tacos de Barbacoa
🎢 Gran Fiesta Tour — a gentle indoor boat ride. You drift past twinkling lanterns, festive marketplaces, and scenes inspired by real Mexican landscapes while searching for Donald Duck, who has (of course) wandered off during a performance with his amigos, José Carioca and Panchito. With a very short wait, it was a bit of light hearted fun that we enjoyed.

🇳🇴 Norway Pavilion

The Norway Pavilion feels like stepping into a charming Nordic village, with architecture inspired by traditional stave churches and colorful Scandinavian waterfront towns. Carved wooden details, stone paths, and cozy shopfronts give the area a storybook atmosphere that feels both historic and fairytale-like. Inside the shops and bakery, you’ll find Norwegian sweaters, playful trolls, and the irresistible scent of fresh pastries from Kringla Bakeri Og Kafé.

Recommendations:

🍹 Frozen Cloudberry Juice (mocktail)
🍰 School Bread — coconut custard pastry
🎢 Frozen Ever After — We did not get to ride as the line was over 90 minutes long. It is a musical dark boat ride that takes you on a tour through the kingdom of Arendelle where you are invited to join a "Summer Snow Day" celebration, commemorating the anniversary of the day Anna saved Elsa with an act of true love. This ride replaced Maelstrom, which I actually did get to ride many years ago. I hope to check out Frozen Ever After on my next trip.

🇨🇳 China Pavilion

The centerpiece is the triple-tiered Great Ceremonial Hall, a 1/2 scale recreation of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests in Beijing. The area is filled with serene gardens, koi ponds, and intricate bridge architecture that makes it one of the most photographed spots in the park.

Recommendations:

🍹 Tipsy Ducks in Love — bourbon, tea, and coffee magic
🥟 Potstickers
🎭 Reflections of China — a 14-minute Circle-Vision 360° film that takes you on a sweeping tour of ancient and modern China, including the Great Wall and the Gobi Desert. It is beautifully filmed and made me add a few more places to my travel bucket list!

🇩🇪 Germany Pavilion

Designed to resemble a fairytale Bavarian village, the Germany Pavilion is centered around a picturesque cobblestone plaza featuring a statue of St. George and the Dragon. You'll find specialty shops like Der Teddybär (toys and Steiff bears), Kunstarbeit in Kristall (fine crystal), and the year-round Die Weihnachts Ecke Christmas shop.

Recommendations:

🍺 Grapefruit Schofferhofer Beer
🥨 Jumbo Pretzel
🎶 Often live folk music
🚂 Don’t miss the tiny model train village tucked in the back

Something new: We paused here and grabbed a cookie [Epcott was having a cookie festival, who knew?] and got to enjoy Micha’s Adventskalender Puppetry -- magical puppet theater adventure explaining the history and traditions of the German advent calendar. It was a fun pause for sure.

🇮🇹 Italy Pavilion

The pavilion is centered around the Plaza del Teatro, a vibrant square showcasing a blend of Venetian, Roman, and Florentine architectural styles. It features iconic replicas like the 83-foot-tall St. Mark’s Campanile and the meticulously detailed Doge’s Palace with its distinctive patterned façade. The space is further anchored by the Fontana di Nettuno and waterfront Venetian bridges where authentic gondolas float in the lagoon.

There are also three very cool shops here: La Bottega Italiana that sells Italian cookware, gourmet food items, and home decor, Il Bel Cristallo which offers Murano glass, porcelain, and designer Italian handbags and apparel, and La Gemma Elegante that specializes in hand-painted Venetian masks, Italian fragrances, and jewelry.

Recommendations:

🍋 Italian Margarita
🍊 Sparkling blood orange soda (great mocktail option)
🍕 Pizza al Taglio slice
🎭 Street performers pop up throughout the day — always fun surprises

🇺🇸 The American Adventure

Here you will find colonial-style architecture modeled after Independence Hall and a rotunda designed for excellent acoustics.

Recommendations:

🥃 Tennessee Lemonade
🥧 Frozen Apple Pie Slush
🎟️ The American Adventure Show — a stunning 30-minute show with animatronics and film
🎶 Candlelight Processional: We caught the end of this and it was just lovely. In the America Gardens Theatre, there was a live orchestra and a large choir performing traditional Christmas carols. There was also reserved seating for those in the know.

🇯🇵 Japan Pavilion

Skipped for now - we come back at the end as this is where we had dinner and watching the fireworks :)

🇲🇦 Morocco Pavilion

Unique as the only World Showcase destination where the Moroccan government assisted in the design, even sending royal artisans to hand-carve the intricate mosaics and woodwork. It is designed to look like a bustling North African medina, featuring a replica of the Koutoubia Minaret prayer tower and the Bab Boujouloud (Blue Gate) that leads visitors into a maze of narrow, winding streets. The Souk-Al-Magreb is an open-air marketplace where you can find hand-knotted rugs, leather goods, and brass lanterns.

Recommendations:

🍹 Tangierine Breeze
🍵 Frozen Mint Tea
🥙 Hummus with fresh pita

🇫🇷 France Pavilion

The France Pavilion is divided into a classic Parisian neighborhood and a more recent expansion inspired by the artistic district of Montmartre. Its skyline is dominated by a 1/10-scale Eiffel Tower replica that uses forced perspective to appear full-sized above the cobblestone streets and wrought-iron balconies. The atmosphere is completed by a fountain inspired by the Place des Vosges and manicured hedges modeled after the world-famous Gardens of Versailles. In addition, you'll find cute
boutiques that sell authentic French goods, including Guerlain cosmetics and perfumes, Givenchy fragrances, and imported French wines. This place was bustling with lines out the door for the Creperie and Glacerie.

Recommendations:

🍸 Grand Marnier Slush
🍨 Macaron ice cream sandwich
🎢 Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure — Alas, another over 90 minute line, so we passed this time. But next time, I'd really like to see it: a 4D ride through Gusteau’s kitchen. I really liked the movie Ratatouille.
🎶 Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along: An interactive animated film featuring lyrics to popular songs from the movie. This was super fun, and as some people had been drinking around the world, quite a boisterous time.

🇬🇧 United Kingdom Pavilion

This pavillion is a charming stroll through British history, featuring a mix of architectural styles ranging from Tudor-era timber frames to Victorian red brick. You’ll find yourself wandering through a quintessential cobblestone street, past a "London" park with a traditional bandstand, and right into a hedge maze inspired by Somerleyton Hall. The Toy Soldier sells British toys and collectibles, including Doctor Who and Paddington Bear merchandise. You'll also find Winne the Pooh merchandise here.

Recommendations:

🍹 Pimm’s Cup
🐟 Fish & Chips
🎸 British Revolution band rocks the garden stage
🌿 Wander the hedge maze behind the shops

🇨🇦 Canada Pavilion

The pavillion is centered around a towering 30-foot waterfall and the magnificent Hotel du Canada, which was inspired by the Château Laurier in Ottawa.

🍎 Ottawa Apple Cocktail
🧀 Cheddar cheese soup sample
🎥 Canada Far and Wide film - missed this but will definitely go back in future.  It's an updated 360-degree film narrated by Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy that takes you on a journey through the country's provinces

Tired but happy, we headed back to the Japan Pavilion to finish our long day.

🇯🇵 Japan Pavilion

The Japan Pavilion’s design draws from significant historical periods, anchored by a striking red Torii Gate modeled after the Itsukushima Shrine in the lagoon. The landscape features a five-story blue-roofed pagoda representing the five Buddhist elements and the majestic White Heron Castle, a recreation of the 17th-century Himeji Castle. Visitors can also explore tranquil Japanese gardens filled with native maples, koi ponds, and traditional footbridges.

Recommendations:

💜 Violet Sake
🍡 Chicken yakitori or matcha soft serve
🎎 Bijutsu-kan Gallery — a hidden, air-conditioned cultural exhibit
🛍️ Mitsukoshi Department Store -- a mini Japan. From cute pop-culture finds like Hello Kitty and Pokémon to elegant teas, ceramics, and kimonos, there’s something for every taste (and budget!). Don’t forget to explore the snack section—Japanese candies and treats make the perfect souvenirs or a sweet mid-park pick-me-up.

🍣 Dinner: Shiki-Sai Sushi Izakaya

Shiki-San Izakaya

We booked our a reservation on the Disney World app [so happy we did]. The prix-fixe menu was so good, we were doing a happy sushi dance 🍣💃 in our seats. Every bite was tasty and so beautifully presented—and the atmosphere where you could watch the sushi chefs at work was delightful.

🎆 Evening Magic: Fireworks at EPCOT

We grabbed a viewing spot on the second-floor Mitsukoshi area -- an incredible elevated vantage point.

Luminous Epcot

At 9:30 PM, “Luminous: The Symphony of Us” transformed EPCOT into a dazzling dreamscape. Fireworks exploded in rainbow bursts above World Showcase, fountains danced in perfect rhythm, and music swelled with pure Disney emotion—but watching it through and around the iconic Torii Gate in the Japan Pavilion made the whole experience feel even more magical and cinematic. After a full day of exploring, tasting, and stepping your way around the globe, it was the kind of heart-tugging finale that makes you pause, take a deep breath, and just soak in the magic.
