Hello my Wander Friends!
Welcome to Part 4 of the Japan Blog. Let's jump right in :)
Day 1: After several magical days in Kyoto, it was time to head to Tokyo — and like so many things in Japan, the journey was seamless.
Arriving into Tokyo Station from Kyoto was incredibly easy. A quick transfer between trains, a tap of the Suica Card, and we were on our way toward Tokyo Bay.
Japan’s transit system really is a dream for travelers. Signs are clear, trains run on time, and the Suica card works across trains, buses, and even convenience stores.
From there, it was an easy ride to our home base for the next couple of nights.
We stayed at the beautiful
Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay, and it turned out to be the perfect base for our adventure.
The rooms are spacious, beautifully designed, and incredibly comfortable — everything you want after a long travel day. Even better? The hotel offers a free shuttle to both:
• Tokyo Disneyland
• Tokyo DisneySea as well as the nearby train station.
Comfort, convenience, and a little extra magic all in one stay.
Just one tip for travelers: the hotel sits along Tokyo Bay, which means it’s about 45 minutes by bus and train into central Tokyo. Totally doable — just something to plan for when mapping out your day.
Once we were settled, we headed back into town for Dinner With Ninjas (Yes… Really)
That evening we headed into the city for one of the most unusual and fun dining experiences of the trip: Ninja Tokyo.
This restaurant is part dinner… part theatrical ninja adventure.
Hidden passageways. Secret doors. Ninja servers appearing out of nowhere.
And yes — close-up magic at your table.
I had read about it and watched a few videos before the trip, but experiencing it in person was even better. The show is playful and interactive, and the food is surprisingly excellent. Not just a gimmick — truly a wonderful dinner.
Totally worth it.
Day 2: A Delicious Start --
Japanese Hotel Breakfast at
Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay was an event in itself.
Japanese hotels really know how to do breakfast right.
You’ll find both Eastern and Western choices, so everyone can build the perfect plate. There are delicate pastries, savory Japanese options, beautiful fruit, and an omelette station where they somehow produce the fluffiest omelettes imaginable.
Add in a great cup of coffee and you’re officially fueled for a full Tokyo day.
Ready to start getting those 10,000 steps in? First stop,
teamLab Planets: Art You Walk Through. This isn’t just an art museum, it’s a full-body experience.
The Water Installation: You walk barefoot through immersive environments — spongy dark spaces, glittering light rooms, giant soft spheres, and warm shallow water where digital koi fish swim around your feet.
When you step near them, they burst into flowers and drift away.
Every room feels different. Every step changes the art around you.
The Forest: in some installations, the lights respond to your movement and touch, creating a constantly shifting universe.
In others, you interact with digital animals — catching them, learning about them, and releasing them back into their environment.
The Garden: Perhaps the most magical moment: thousands of real orchids suspended in midair.
As you move beneath them, the flowers rise gently to make space — almost as if the garden is alive and aware of you. This is moving and living art you don’t just look at but enter.
Tokyo… this ROCKS.
After all that stimulation, it was time for something quieter.
We stepped into
Takizme for a beautiful and intimate tea ceremony experience.
Thoughtfully sourced teas were paired with carefully selected sweets designed to complement each flavor.
It felt like the perfect pause — a moment of calm in the middle of Tokyo’s incredible energy.
If you ever need a reset during a busy travel day, this is the way to do it.
Next up: the colorful chaos of
Takeshita Street. We hopped a train over and arrived at the beating heart of Harajuku’s street culture — packed with quirky boutiques, wild fashion, and iconic snack stands.
And since strawberries were perfectly in season, we couldn’t resist stopping at Strawberry Fetish.
Imagine juicy ripe strawberries coated in glossy candy, sometimes paired with chocolate or marshmallow.
Sweet, crunchy, and completely irresistible.
Walking Tokyo is an adventure all its own.In Harajuku, giant electronic billboards tower above the streets — at one point a massive Calvin Klein model strutting overhead like something out of a movie.
Everything feels cinematic. Oversized. Electric.
Then suddenly — like stepping through Platform 9¾ — you walk into the enormous Harry Potter Shop Harajuku.
Wands stacked floor to ceiling.
House scarves in perfect rows.
Chocolate frogs. Hedwig plushies watching from above.
And yes — you absolutely have to try the butterbeer.
Cold. Sweet. Frothy. Perfect.
A little farther down the street, music lovers will feel their heart skip a beat when they see the giant Tower Records Shibuya.
Multiple floors of music.
Suddenly you’re transported 30 years back in time, flipping through albums like the good old days.
And then the current of the city carries you onward…
Until suddenly you’re standing in the middle of the legendary Shibuya Crossing.
Thousands of people surge through the intersection in every direction at once.
Perfectly choreographed chaos.
You’re just one person among many — moving with the pulse of the city.
Sweet.
Having enjoyed our day out, we headed back to the hotel, for an
unforgettable meal at Tenma Sushi inside the
Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay.
We sat at the counter while the chef prepared each piece with incredible care and artistry.
Two beautiful appetizers started the evening, followed by ten exquisite pieces of sushi — each one more delicious than the last.
And dessert?
A stunning presentation of fresh fruit, mochi, ice cream, and a delicate sauce tying everything together.
Hands down one of the best sushi meals I’ve ever
Tomorrow…
Tokyo Disneyland awaits.
And then… back home.
But one more magical day in Japan first.
