Let’s just start with this: Tokyo Disneyland is cheaper than the U.S. parks… and way more crowded. Like “did I accidentally come on the busiest day of the year?” crowded. ๐ Reservations sold out on my day, and apparently this is a common occurence.
But here’s the thing—it’s still magical, joyful, and absolutely worth every step (and you will get your steps in… trust me).
If you go in a little more prepared than I did, you’re going to have an even better day.
I stayed at Hyatt Regency Tokyo Bay
Beautiful property, lovely breakfast, and close to Tokyo Disney. They have a free shuttle that starts at 7am to get you to the park early. Read on, and you'll see why that is so very helpful!๐ฑ Do This Before You Even Lace Up Your Sneakers
Download the Tokyo Disney app. Seriously. This is your lifeline for the day.
A few WanderLyn must-dos:
Play around with the app ahead of time—it’s different from the U.S. version
Buy your tickets in advance and make sure the entire party is on someone's phone. This comes in handy when booking things before and after arriving at the park.
Book dining reservations as soon as they open [usually 30 days before]
If you see a dining + show combo… grab it there are two to choose form
๐ Waiting until the day of? Not the move. Things disappear quickly here. I wasn't really sure what to grab and ended up losing out. I won't make that mistake again.
๐งบ The Blanket Situation (You’ll Want In on This)
One of the most fascinating things I saw?
Families bring blankets and basically “reserve” their parade spot early in the day.
They:
Lay it down along the route
Leave it there (yes, really!)
Come back to snack, rest, and meet up
Use it for parade viewing later
It’s part picnic, part strategy, part genius. People even bring these plastic circle chairs they carry like purses - this helps you understand the line situation.
If you’re traveling with a group—bring a small blanket. You’ll blend right in and thank yourself later when your feet need a break.
⏰ Rope Drop = Game Time
If the park opens at 9:00 AM, you want to be there by 8:00 AM. at the latest!!!! I recommend 7:30 am. Bring a book - get comfy. This may seem extreme, but really, you have not seen lines like this or the incredibly patient people who are willing to stand in them!
Here’s the reality:
About 30 minutes to get through security
Another 30 minutes to actually get into the park
So by the time you’re in—it’s go time. Only the very early bird gets rope drop here!!
Your first three moves:
Buy Premier Access for Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast
The standby line? 3–4 hours. All day. No thank you. Yes, these cost money but are not super expensive, and the cost of your entry ticket is about half the US cost - don't don't penny pinch here.Book your Priority Pass
These are free - yay! Take the earliest time available. As soon as you scan in, grab your next one. Yes, you must be mistress of the app. It gets easier as you get used to it. That's why becoming familiar with it before arriving helps.Mobile order your snacks early
Food lines can hit an hour. Yes… for fries. Plan ahead and thank yourself later. And some of the snacks are sooooo very yummy - you won't want to miss them.In between Premiere Access and Priority Pass rides, check the map. It will tell you the waits and you can plan your day.
๐️ Shopping Strategy (Because Those Lines… Wow)
When you first walk in, the shopping area looks like a Black Friday sale. Lines just to enter the store.
Don’t do it.
Come back around 4:00–5:00 PM and it’s a completely different vibe—calm, easy, and actually enjoyable. That’s when you grab your souvenirs without the chaos.
๐ข The Rides: Classic Disney… with a Tokyo Twist
This is where Tokyo Disneyland really surprised me. So many rides felt familiar—but just different enough to make you smile and pay attention.
๐ It’s a Small World (with Groot!)
This one is pure happiness. You float along through the classic scenes, but then—surprise!—you spot Groot tucked into different parts of the world. It’s like a little scavenger hunt while you ride. The colors feel extra bright, the characters extra cute, and it’s one of those rides where you just sit back, cool off, and reset your feet for a bit.
๐ป Country Bear Jamboree
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/dK6Uyfdk95Y
Oh, the nostalgia! If you grew up going to Disneyland in California or Magic Kingdom in Florida, this hits you right in the feels.
The animatronic bears are singing, joking, and playing instruments in a cozy theater setting. What makes Tokyo’s version fun is the mix of Japanese and English, so even if you don’t catch every word, you still get the humor and charm. It’s a great “sit down and rest your legs” break—and honestly, I left smiling.
๐ด☠️ Pirates of the Caribbean
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Uc-3iza68H4
This one felt a little more like “Pirates of old,” which I loved. It’s slower-paced, super immersive, and full of detailed scenes.
You drift through:
Dark caves
Pirate battles
Town scenes with so much to look at
Again, the mix of Japanese and English adds to the experience—it’s familiar, but just different enough to keep it interesting. And yes… you will be humming yo ho, yo ho afterward.
๐ป Haunted Mansion
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/XBFIwpdRXws
Very similar to Anaheim, but with subtle differences that Disney fans will notice.
You still get:
The stretching room (always a favorite)
Spooky ride-through scenes
That perfect mix of creepy and fun
But the timing, voices, and little details feel slightly different. It’s like visiting an old friend who changed their hairstyle—you recognize everything, but it’s not exactly the same. And it still delivers those chills… BOO!
๐บ Enchanted Tiki Room
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ihpOJDOCEYg
Same singing birds, flowers, and tiki vibes—but Tokyo adds its own storyline, and it leans a little more into the cute factor. A large singing Stitch pops up at the end - awesome!!!!
It’s colorful, upbeat, and another perfect break when you need to sit down and cool off. Not a thrill ride, but a happy little pause in your day.
๐น Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast (The one that got away)
This is the one. The must-do. The reason you set that alarm early. And, I did not know, so I missed it, but from my research: The ride system is incredible—you’re in these dancing “teacup-style” vehicles that glide, spin, and move in ways that feel almost choreographed with the music.
Inside, you’ll experience:
Huge, beautifully designed scenes
Advanced animatronics (Belle and Beast are amazing!)
That iconic ballroom moment… yes, it’s magical
Next time -- Paying for Premier Access here? No hesitation. Do it.
๐ Lunch… Tokyo Disney Style
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/fLI8vJ5hk-E
Sunday crowds mean long food lines, so I went with the closest option: Plasma Ray’s Diner. It took about an hour to get through the line and such an interesting meal experience.
My tray looked like this:
Curry chicken rice soup with cheese
A Mickey-shaped egg [how did they do that???]
Fries
Melon Fanta
Random? Absolutely. Tasty and fun? Also yes.
๐ Travel tip: Try something new—even at Disney. That’s part of the adventure.
๐ญ Sweet Treats, Style, and So Many Steps
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/b-aMyFBWNz0
By the end of the day, I had:
Walked miles (this is a 20K+ step kind of park day!)
Grabbed a few sweet treats (because… balance ๐) Also a 45 minute line - will definitely be the queen of the 9am Mobile Order for 4pm snacking next time.
And fully enjoyed one of my favorite activities—people watching
And let me tell you… Tokyo Disney guests bring it:
Coordinated outfits
Disneybounding
Creative, adorable looks everywhere
It’s joyful, expressive, and honestly just so fun to see. The guests LOVE taking pictures and there are long lines for photo ops. The people watching really is next level here.
✨ Final Thoughts from WanderLyn
Tokyo Disneyland is:
Busy ✔️
Different ✔️
Completely magical ✔️
Yes, you’ll walk a ton. Yes, you’ll navigate crowds. But you’ll also smile all day long. I did my shopping on my way out. LOVE my Tokyo Disneyland Sweatshirt!!
Next time I go? Oh, I’ll be ready—with my app, my plan… and probably a blanket.
To get to Haneda Airport:
๐ Limousine bus back to Haneda (efficient and affordable)
They pick up right in the Tokyo Disneyland parking lot. So, I went to my locker, grabbed my luggage, and off I went like the very happy camper I was.
Bye-bye, Tokyo—you were magical (and a fantastic workout). ๐
Until next time,
Eat well. Move well. Wander well.
